This is Duncan my GWP. Almost 3.

Here he is with his first goose last year...

In the field being serious...

and lounging in his free time

This year I switched over to a 16ga Philly Sterlingworth which I shoot far better than my 20 gamecock. The dog is far happier.
Did well on pheasants and duck this year, and still have time left for geese and grouse.
Hopefully next weekend.

Cheers

Tom

This was yesterday. On the left is Briar, my 8yr old Springer and Thor is 14 months. We rough shoot doves, ducks, grouse, pheasant and rabbits.

After ten years of shooting old SxSs I've gone back to my roots and have been shooting a 1930s 17 and several 1940s Ithaca 37s when I need a 12.

I've seen a couple outdoor TV shows that featured Jack Russells doing birdwork - flushing and retrieving. Why not Westies? I'll bet he's fun to watch.

Man, are you guys old. Tim appears to have most of his teeth, and good taste in guns (my first repeater was a 1931 model 17, 50 pre Carter administration dollars that it took me what seemed like a whole summer to get in one pile) and I still got it-the gun AND a full set of adult human teeth....
Best,
Ted

My dog, Max Bud (Maximum Buddy) is a Black and Tan Rooster Cruiser.

He's a Springer/Rottweiler(sire) mix that looks like a Gordon Setter on steroids. He's eleven now and 55 pounds of hunting enthusiasm. He has over 300 birds to his credit. Mostly pheasants with a few quail and partridge for good measure.

We got him when he was six weeks old. He's smart as all get out and a gentleman to boot. Home schooled with the silly notion that any dog can hunt well if he is brought up right. Besides being a wonderful companion and part of the family he's a hunter. The best compliment came from another hunter with much experience with purebreds. "Max here would put to shame many other dogs that cost owners four figures to train to be hunters."

Guns I generally use in 12 ga. are Winchester Model 21 choked .005/.015, or a 12 ga. Gamba SLE choked .010/.012. Lately, though I have used an early 1930's vintage Model 12, 16ga named 'Murder'. It's a straight gripped, 28" barrel with a factory full choke. Fits me like the proverbial glove and I shoot it better than I really am. Go figure.

We do have lot's of fun.

Tony

My two hunting companions are Zack and Val(Valhalla Field born Smoke). They are GSPs. They just achieved stardom: they are on the "Hunting with a Smith" page of the LCSCA webpage. Zack is already setting up a tour to give "Paw agraphs".

I hunt ruffed grouse with Brittanys; they do it all with style. Once while hunting I came upon a pond and they walked across it without getting their feet wet. (It was 8 degrees F.)

There are two kinds of hunting, ordinary hunting and grouse hunting. Leopold

Eight year old Black Lab female "Cricket" (still jumps to shoulder height from a standstill) and 12 1/2 year old English Setter "Smoke" that I adopted by request of his owner at age 5 (he went to field-trialing GSPs!!). Lab is a great hunter as well as retriever - actually looks for game in the field right out of the box. Increase in $ I spent for superior breeding can't even be compared to my previous Lab, who had a wonderful nose and loved to hunt but acted like the guy in the CMT video, "Bubba Can Dance". The Setter is an old bachelor dog in the run at home but in the woods he goes like the hammers of hell. A superior grouse dog by any standard, he came from a way-back breeding at Grouse Ridge and his registered name says it all: 'Smoke 'Em Up!' Can't wait to own another one. KBM
