alot of descriptions people give about their double barrel include something about the top lever being off to the right. what is the significance of this. i have a c grade Remington 1894, and the top lever is pretty much right down the middle, so i dont get why some are off to the right, and what this means. can someone shed some light on this for me?

On a standard right hand gun the farther to the right, the better. Eventually the bolt wears enough that it runs out of travel and can't engage the lug 100%. Then the gun is loose. When the bolt runs out of travel the thumb lever is well to the left.
Rarely seen but there are some guns made for Lefties with a thumblever that rotates opposite of the standard.

Straight down he middle shows some wear but it looks good, like it was made that way. Actually a bit to the left, while indicating wear, is of little concern, but if your selling a gun you emphasize the positive.

There are some doubles on which the lever started in the center & will remain there irregardless of wear. I currently have three which are like this; an early Lefever side pivot opener, a British J P Clabrough & a Geman J P Sauer. These later two are both double underbolted with doll's head, over 100 yrs old, have no built-in wear compensation, both appear well used but both lock up tight & on face.
