I would not say any of the guns shown here are overstocked,they all look beautiful. I have seen a LC Field grade that had faded case and worn blue with a new high figure stock and to me it looked out of place.
I have a Fox XE that has rather plain wood on it, gun is out now for a restoration. I think the wood is going to be appropriate for the gun when everything is finished as the XE's engraving is kind of over the top,the plain wood will balance out the engraving. That is unless Chuck wants to give me that blank for it grin

I have a blank or two I'm saving for something nice but I'm getting to the point that I'm about ready to lower my standard on what gun will get restocked. It's not the price of the wood that has kept me from restocking something it's the cost of having someone good do it. None of the blanks below cost over $100.

I know what you're saying but the inverse, to me, is worse. A great old "name" gun with beautiful barrels, engraving, etc. and wood that is so plain-jane it's a sin.

And still, it doesn't seem to matter to the price-tagger. Personally, I've stopped short of a "many large" gun purchase more than once because the wood belonged on an oar.

As far as I'm concerned it is not the gun that is worthy of the blanks, it is the owner.

He is the one who shall appreciate a beautiful piece of wood, wherever he chooses to use it.

Is beauty ever out of place?

Yes, sometimes it is.

Beauty is totality of features. A woman can have beautiful feet (for example) and a plain face. Added up, you still have a plain woman. I don't see many plain women, but see plenty of plain guns. Dressing one feature up just emphasizes the plainess of the other.

Well,.. to each his own. Always kind of figured that if a guy can take one of those common, plain ol' featureless guns and file it up dead flat and crisp, hand polish it,and get one of the pros to put on some fine new case colors, and velvety rust blue...... It would be almost like women with bueatiful white teeth and clean shiny hair, clear complexion, etc. No make up and jewlrey and ribbons an' bows needed. You know..... the kind who would look just as good wearing a old flour sack as any evening gown. Again to each his own...
Have a good one;
Kraft
