The word Nitro on the flats is in the picture of the German gun posted by JayCee, not the British gun in question by dal.

Looks a cheap and cheerful Birmingham gun .These were turned out by several makers at hardly any greater cost the a box lock. The look of the pin latout on the locks suggests a coil spring ,so it may have been made by Rogers as they had the patent on the lock . One of my old mentors always refered to guns of thus type as a "roger" .

dal,From the black powder proof marks and the presence of the word "Choke"on the barrel flats we can tell that this gun was made in Birmingham between 1888 & 1903.
There is no mention of a McCready in the book, Canadian Gunsmiths by S.James Gooding.Records show that there was a sporting goods and cycle store in Toronto, circa 1890, trading under the name McCready. In my opinion this was a gun made in Birmingham for McCready, most likely by Claborough.Circa 1890.[ie;It is very similar to a Clabrough gun].
About this time Greener issued a Canadian catalogue which also advertised Cycles made by his brother Fred Greener!Perhaps McCready was following Greeners lead?
A Clabrough gun of this vintage,With out evidence of being in proof, recently sold at an Ontario gun show for less than $500.

Crap....you guys are good!

Now, if I could only find a brother or sister to my dad's 1959 Antonio Zoli 16ga. scalloped back box lock sxs, bought from a high end(?) Yonge Street gun shop in Toronto for $650 in 1962.

I have never found another one like it.

Don.

If all this sound advice has put you off the gun, please PM me if you care to disclose its whereabouts. I'd consider it for the intrigue.

It just wouldn't be cost effective.
