I know it's way off topic but it's just so beautiful here I had to brag. The Deep South is awash in pinks and reds and whites of Azaleas and bright gold of Lady Banks rose and blue Wisteria and yellow Confederate Jessamine and pink and white Dogwood. The woods are full of Dogwood and wild Plum. Narcissus and Japanese and Star magnolia have already come and gone after a spectacular show. Fields that are still fallow have gone from sheets of purple Henbit to the gold-yellow of Buttercup. Lawns are still covered with pale pink Spring Beauty and there are a few patches left of tiny bright blue Bluets. From mid February to mid April it is an unbroken progression of flowers. Each wave more spectacular than the last. It almost makes enduring the summer worthwhile.

I know what you mean, the sun is out here and we only have a couple of feet of snow left on the ground. Saw the payment in front of the house today for the first time this winter, spring is here.

I've been mowing my grass for 2 weeks now, it's been over 80F here. Only a matter of time before misery hits. Regards, Joe

We have had almost twice out normal (measly) average of rain in SouCal already this year. Hope the usual equation (H20 = quail) hold again this year!

Does all that rain in Southern Cal mean the fires will be epidemic this fall?

As I stare out my front window, I see white stuff falling and I'm about to go stir crazy!
Need to repair an elk and deer damaged fence around a garden I have in my hometown and the weather just keeps messing with those plans. White stuff be damned, I'm going to bite the bullet and get it done today!
Sorry about the rant! Glad some out there are enjoying some nice spring weather.

From today's Bozeman Chronicle:
When it's springtime in Montana, And the gentle breezes blow, About 70 miles an hour And it's 52 below... The weather here is wonderful, So I guess I'll hang around. I could never leave Montana, My feet are frozen to the ground.

Very appropriate Steven!
My feet aren't frozen to the ground but I think I'm starting to grow webbing between my toes!

Brent, it just depends on the fall weather. If we get rains early, we won't have a horrible fire season (happened last year). If we get Santa Ana winds instead, we'll have a serious problem.
Heavy rains cause many good things here. But they mean that we will have an extra heavy growth of invasive weeds like Sahara Mustard, Wild Radish, Yellow Star Thistle, I can go on and on.
When that stuff seeds and dries, it makes the perfect beginning of a firestorm when there's a 50+ mph Santa Ana behind it blowing super dry heated air from the inland deserts. At least we'll have a reservoir water supply to fight the fires with....
Fortunately quail are just as smart about fires as they are about hunters!
