I took a look at the advertisement. Purdey's name has brand value level one (BV1). The gun is obviously an Original Quality Grade one (OQ1). It appears to fit to the description of "heavy use, but no abuse," which is Current Condition level four (CC4). BV1-OQ1-CC4 = $15,900. For BV1-OQ1 (which for a Purdey best SLE were fixed at birth), CC5 (restored) = $12,000 and CC3 (significant use) = $21,000.

The gun is relatively fairly priced per my market model, but that doesn't make it what you want or right for you. Your best buy is most likely to come when your head and your heart agree on the same gun. There are plenty of really fine guns out there, so take your time and learn what you are shopping for.

I have seen the gun, stand by my original statement. Notice that I made the comment before I realized that I had seen and examined the gun. The gun appears to be very original, honestly field used with no apparent monkeying or careless disassembly. I seriously considered the gun when I originally examined it, but it didn't appear on the website for months. I didn't realize that the seller still had it so didn't inquire. From my original examination, I would only want to examine the barrels for originality and wall thickness to get back in the driver's seat.

Is there anyway I can convert the gun back to 2 1/2" chambers?

The short answer is no.

The other answer is I suppose the chambers could be sleeved but then you are further away from original than with the 2-3/4" ones.

And my other brother Darryl says you could also have Purdey's make you another set of 2-1/2" barrels. Not practical.

My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income.

Treat the 2-3/4" chambers as a Long Forcing Cone, and shoot 2-1/2" ammo in it.

Biggest question is : Is the gun worth the ask to YOU?

Good Luck

If you can holdout for a Lewis Drake price Purdey, better for you.
...but using the right game loads, this gun would be fine.
The next guy in line would know this also.
