I made some lead and oakum joints as an adolescent. Caulking irons, pouring rope, propane furnace. My father owned an HVAC and plumbing company. Then there was wiping lead, lead solder, soldering sheet metal flashings, lead shower pans, lead in the faucets, I have about 30 pellets of lead #6s in me from a pheasant hunt in 1982. Maybe all the lead is the root cause of my IQ deficiency too!

They used to make the oakum from hemp and some of the old plumbers smoked it. They couldn't pass the drug test if they did it now.
