Made in 1926 in the Winchester caliber you mention. Made for using jacketed bullets. I cannot tell you much more , but others might be able to add to this. Very nice condition gun and in an odd configuration with the rifle barrel atop the two gun barrels.

I assume you know that it is Belgian? The Belgian makers seem to have had a thing for the .405; all the .405 double rifles I have seen were Belgian. But this is the first drilling I have ever seen in that caliber. (What a good idea!) Wonder if this gun was intended to go to the Congo?

I only know that this is one great gun. Three triggers, .405, 12 gauge, two beautiful screws in the trigger guard, great stock design, single sighting plane, all wonderful features rarely found in drillings. I'll be waiting for it to appear on gunbroker!

Although some would call this a Shienendrilling, the rifle barrel is not actually in the rib or rail, as the term seems to refer to. The Germans would probably come up with a completely new term to describe the design of the .405.

WUNDERBAR is the first German phrase that comes to mind. I guess in America they would call is WUNDERBARendrilling or some such name.

As Mike pointed out your drilling was proofed in Liege, Belgium. It was, most probably, a Guild gun, obviously done by a talented craftsman. I've never seen one just like it. NICE!

No frills,just a great using piece for the remote places where you could have run into most anything,except a gunsmith.

What can you tell me about it? Thanks in advance... It was made in 1926, as Daryl stated. It was proofed for Nitro. It appears to have the mark of Charles Gillet. Charle Gillet was a little known gun dealer in what once called Poulseur. He had relatives involved in the gun trade who were located in Liege and Herstal. The crown over R indicates a rifled barrel and is clearly marked .405 caliber. The remaining proof marks are for the shotgun barrels. The shotgun was chambered for 12ga 2 1/2" shells. Pete
