They identify it by it being a Winchester Model 21---not a CSMC Model 21.

Chuck: I've read alot of your posts and I think you already kbnow the answer to your question. Naw.....I can't really tell either.....I mean, it looked like they had some sort of documentation.....maybe from the Buffalo Bill Historical Society, who keeps the records on this sort of thing???? Maybe, someone should check the serial number of this Grand Royal with the museum and see if it letters???? If it does, I wonder if Mr. Dove would have done that sort of engraving for U.S. Repeating Arms, who owned Winchester at the time????? You guys decide. Hey. I'm also in Real Estate...and I have some great land for sale in ..... I think it's Iraq, no I mean Agghanistannnnnnnn and it's beach front...and has some really nice French Walnut growing on it too.............. Let me know if you have any interest????

Regardless, it is nothing less than vulgar.

I can assure you that even if it was made by Winchester, it was not engraved by their engravers. If it started as a Grand Royal, it certainly must have been finished by the "no taste" engravers of CSMC.
There is no comparison between this gun with the Grade Royal that Dove engraved.
I sickens me to see a Model 21 engraved in this manner. sick

What I gathered from Schwing is that the first Grand Royal was being made to honor John Olin, who died before it was finished. The others were sold to purchasers in-the-white to be finished up as they chose. The Dove engraved gun was sent back to the Custom Shop to be finished up.

I have seen a documented Grand Royale [Royal ?] finished by the Win. Custom Shop. Some connection with a Winchester distributer in Chicago. I seem to remember the rib blue had to be done by Colt as no other could do it. Circa 1980s Fine , Fine gun, but nothing like the gun in question in this post.

Obviously engraved by Hoochi Quoochi Sardoochi that does the other CSM stuff. What a shame. This gun could have been tastefully engraved in to Winchester's more traditional theme.

I'm not even a fan of the 21 and I'm offended by this "product".
