At the local antique store, there is a Remington 1900 12 ga. for sale. Allow me to describe teh conditions.
Stock has been repaired where it was broken through the wrist. The for end latch does not release the for end. It has two ill fitting replacement screws in it. It is also very difficult to move.
The barrels have been cut to about 25", have pitted chambers and scratched bores. The overall finish on the metals and wood is poor. There are no scratches. pits or dents in the metal.
The owner is holding firm at $295.00!
This may be a project or a parts gun for someone or a wall hanger for the local Cracker Barrel.
What is this gun worth as it is in this condition?
TIA,
Franchi

Really, in the condition you describe, it's only "worth" what someone will pay. I, personally, don't think it's worth $295.

I don't think it has any value. The barrels are shot, the stock is broken, and I saw a pretty good one on Gunbroker asking $450.
There is no "project" in this gun.

Determine what the barrels and receiver weigh and then go look up the going price for scrap steel.

There are lots of JABCs out there for $295, in more usable condition than this one.

Its parts. Barrels are the gun. Junk barrels = Junk gun.

Remington 1900 does not have a visible latch. You just pull up on the forearm. Keep looking or be patient until you get it for $100.
So many guns, so little time!

Hi Builder:
This gun lookes like a 1900 but has a push button on the end on the for end that releases the for end. However, the for end does not release enough for it to be removed from the barrels. What model could this gun be? There is no writing on the gun other than Remington Arms Company on both sides of the action.
Thanks to all for their feedback!

This gun is an 1894 Remington.
Unfortunately it sounds like a sad end to what could have been a very nice shotgun. Remington 1894's are a real bargin in the shotgun world.
