Like everyone, there is always an opinion. For turkey, since I want a tight pattern out of my cylinder bores. I use no cushion at all. Otherwise for all other shooting I use a 1/4" thick fiber cushion, lubed with olive oil. For the one shot at turkey, the no cushion will tighten up the pattern. I use only an over powder card and an over shot card. I am not a scientist, but it seems without any restriction choke, there is nothing to slow up the shot cups and get them out of the shot stream. With a shot cup I get unreliable patterns, some shots are a slug all the way to the target and some shots will pattern ok.
