and looking for a decent load to run through my sxs.
In short, I'm shooting trap with a 12 ga Simson proofed 10/79, and I'm just about through a flat of Remington Game Loads. I'd like to find a decent target-type load using those hulls to send 1 oz. or 7/8 oz. (or even 3/4 oz.) of 7 1/2s (lead) downrange with mild to moderate recoil and relatively minimal expense. Nothing complicated, nothing exotic, nothing funky, b/c I've never reloaded any ammo and want to K.I.S.S.
Anyone have any decent loads to recommend?

There are a lot of options, and many of them are very good. I'm rusty on loads, but I used to shoot a lot of 7/8 ounce loads in both Remmington and AA hulls. I used the AA superlite wad , and Hogdon Clays (some folks have switched to Tightwad, which is cheaper and less bulky). Once you have a powder picked, you can get load recipes on line from the manufacturer. (Mostly these adjust the amount of powder to the primer and other components.)
You'll like 7/8 ounce loads, and reloading.

First go explore Hodgdon's website. They have reloading data for what you want and if there is one thing a beginner reloader needs to follow is precisely the load data from a powder manufacturer.

7/8 oz reloads are great in 12ga, and work really well for skeet. Trap . . . I'm not so sure. You might want to try a few boxes of those before you settle on them. But I use Clays for both 7/8 and 1 oz reloads. I don't know whether the 12ga Game Loads use the same hull as the Remington Gun Clubs. However, if they do, you can use the same recipes as for STS hulls.

They are. Same shell, just black.
This is published by Alliant, and may be the only load you ever need. I use the same thing with Fiocchi primers, but I can't advise you to do that. You didn't hear it here.
Shotshell 12 Gauge 2 3/4-in. Remington Plastic Shells (STS, Nitro 27, Premier RXP and Gun Club) 1 oz. shot wt. Rem 209P CB 1100-12 16.5 grains Red Dot (or Promo) 7,400 psi

My favorite load is one promoted by Sherman Bell in the Double Gun Journal. He took it from Hogdons data.
Federal Game hull (actually, any Federal hull will work) Federal 209 primer 17 grains Clays Federal SO wad (I use Claybuster 2100 clone or Downrange SO clone) 7/8 oz shot eight point crimp
1200 fps at 5,600 psi
I have shot many thousands of these and can attest to their efficiency. Even works well for trap out to about the 23 yard handicap.

All well and good, folks, and I'm really grateful for what you're sharing, but I've got scads of Remington Game Loads hulls, not Gun Clubs or Federals.
Now, if the Remington Game Loads are the same as Gun Clubs, that's one thing. But if they are not, then neither I nor anyone should be loading a Gun Club load into a Game Load hull.

Remington Game Load hulls are the same as Gun Club hulls for reloading purposes. In fact, all of the current Remington compression formed hulls in 12 and 20 gauge are the same for reloading purposes whether they say STS, Nitro, Game Load, Sport Load or Gun Club.
My favorite light 12 loads:
Any Remington hull Nobel Sport or Fiocchi primer 16.5 - 17.5 grains Promo Down Range DR12-1 (now red colored) wad 1 ounce shot
Any Remington hull Nobel Sport or Fiocchi primer 16.5 -17.5 grains Promo Down Range DRXXL (pink) wad 7/8 ounce shot

Thanks for the help folks.
One more question: anyone have a load for the 12 ga with 3/4 oz shot? I want to avoid higher pressures and just have a nice sweet-shooting load that won't bust my shoulder. Just clay targets.
As before, I've got scads of hulls from Remington Game Loads, some Gun Club, and some STS. As far as I can tell, my local store does not carry Fiocchi primers.
And my books (Lyman 5th and the blue complete book of the 12 ga shotshell Cabelas sells, which aggregates load data) don't have any 3/4 oz loads.
In a pinch, a 7/8 oz load will be ok, but I'd like to conserve lead if I can.
Thanks again!
