Sticky pads are a great aid to perfecting a proper gun mount. When the stickiness is no longer an issue because you aren't dragging the butt along your body, your leading hand will be controlling the mount, as it should.

The door prize goes to Armor-all. Taped up the stock, sanded the rubber a bit (it was already smooth and and the sanding did not reduce the tackiness), and then rubbed in several applications of Armor-all. Big difference - not quite as slick as leather or horn but slick enough. I will be curious to see how often the rubber needs to be treated to keep it that way.
Mike - interesting and valid point about the leading hand. Moving the leading hand forward and keeping the back hand quiet is key to a good mount, but I was over-extending my left hand so much to avoid snagging the butt that I had to move the butt back into my shoulder.

Such a long, long time to be gone, and a short time to be there.

I like a slick pad also for clays & hunting. Have tried a lot of the above methods & also Slickeez for Kickeez pads. The best solution for me had been Tuff Nails fingernail polish. Two bucks at the Dollar store. If you don't like it use polish remover to take off. Will check as the pad flexes but just put on another coat. Miroku has 36000 rds on it & Perazzi 10k + 3 hunting guns, used one bottle so far.

how about a leather Faced pad? Get some nice thin leather of proper colour & cut & glue it to fit the face of the pad. I've had a few old Francottes that had them & they seemed original & looked nice Franc

One more option, for the record - though more expensive than Armor-all. Apparently the coating can crack depending on how soft the pad is - despite the manufacturer's statements to the contrary. Slick-eez

I been putting a piece of 3M rubberized walk tread tape on my butt plate to make the gun stick after the mount.

Tru Oil will do the job. If it cracks, just put on another coat.
