The barrels he offered were "contoured blanks". I assumed that meant that striking down would not be required, at least if you liked the thickness they arrived with.
Shaw would probably be willing to make them to spec for barrel thickness, if you knew what you wanted/needed.
Still sounds like a lot of fun.
I have been considering building some barrel sets for an O/U. I found E.R. Shaw's sight for the barrel blanks. And a local CNC shop to build the mono blocks (roughed out). I'm not sure if it would really be worth it in the end. You either have to over-engineer or come up with your own system to proof the barrels after joining them to the mono block.
You could always talk to these guys. They can build the entire barrel set out of a single piece of steel.
