Anyone have any info (or want to venture a guess) as to the pressure of Remington game loads, one ounce loads at 3 1/4 drams? I haven't been able to find any info online, and would like to stay below 8,500 PSI. Thanks, CHAZ

Absent other information, one would have to assume SAAMI maximum pressure for all factory loads.
This would be 11,500 psi for 12ga.
They undoubtedly don't run that high but since they aren't loaded to a pressure but rather to a velocity within limits, assume they vary with lot number.
They work well with gas autos, and that's intentional.
My GUESS would be they average 10K to 10.5K.

I figured at 3 1/4 drams they would be pretty stout. I got a good deal on a few cases, but I guess they feed the newer guns only. CHAZ

I'm pretty sure WWAA Extra lite is around 8000. OK, found the data http://www.lcsmith.org/faq/loadsuse.html

I have been using B&P shells in my LC Smith's because they list pressures for their loads. I tried extra lights, and also the feather lights, both seem to be fine as well. Thanks, CHAZ

Pressure does not necessarily relate to either velocity or shot charge. But it's never safe to assume anything about factory loads from the big American ammo makers other than that they are within SAAMI specs. Even pressure testing won't give you a rock solid answer, except within the same lot of shells. Next time around, they may change powder. As noted above, the manufacturers load to a specific target velocity, the only pressure concern being the SAAMI specs.

The 3 1/4 DE, 1 ounce load is not the preferred load for any purpose I can think of. The 2 3/4 DE, 1 ounce Gun Club or Federal Top Gun is a much better load at a similar price. We pay $50.00 a flat for them, ordered in quantity and delivered to our club.

I have a Pressure Trace II unit and the strain gauge is attached to my single barrel test gun. I have not used it since last year. The last tested were Armusa (no longer available I think). The low pressure ones said 5000 psi and the gun said yes.The trap loads measured 6400 psi.AA loads were tested and were around 7000 psi, but I have lost that data. All the above in 12 ga.I have never had any shell go to 10000 psi.Perhaps I shall go and test these Rem Game loads.

William Apperson,
How do you calibrate your strain gauge with that unit?

Does any knowledgable person out there have any idea of pressures in Remington Shur Shot 20 gauge, one ounce loads? They seem like pretty good shells, and I have used them a lot, but am afraid of them in vintage guns. Am I correct with my concerns? Thx. Buzz
