Hi all, well for all you damascus guys, what is a good way to clean and care for the exterior of the bbls? Same as any other bbls?

Any tips or tricks would be great!!

All the best!

Greg, I like a coat or two of tru oil on mine, with frequent gun oiling and/or waxing after use. Curious what other gents here like also.

I had a set of Parker-made 'Twist Steel' barrels restored by Brad Bachelder. He told me to keep them covered with Johnson's Paste Wax. I have heard a lot of good reports about applying Tru Oil after a good cleaning.

Hi all and many thanks!! So.....tell me about the Tru Oil. Could I get the details on how to apply it? Just wipe on after oiling or what? Also, with the Tru Oil, will that prevent any rust or corrosion?

Thanks again, I'm all ears!!

Greg

I like the paste wax idea better than the tru-oil but I just keep them covered with a very light coat of CLP. The browining looks the same now as it did 8-9 years ago.

I read an article on it and it said Formby's Tung Oil had restorative properties. So I bought some and tried it: it's about like Tru Oil except thinner.

Oscar Gaddy had in his article about re-rust blue and etching of barrels, he suggested motor oil or linseed oil.
I have found out when I re-rust blue/etch that the boiled linseed oil put on very thin with a cottom ball is a very good way. The linseed oil hardens and if you are careful enough to put it on thin, it will look great and stay that way.
I have used the motor oil too, but I had places where some very light rust has formed, but this was with barrels just re-rusted. Now if you are only worried about keeping your barrels free of rust, I'm sure the other methods work good, but to me the boiled inseed oil really protects it and gives it a nice shine.

I've been happy with Ballistol.
