treblig1958, J.A. Hunter had to kill over 1000 Rhino on control and many hundreds of elephant in Kenya and East Africa in the 1950s, I will quote him now..."I have many friends in Nairobi cemetary who put their faith in magazine rifles, I have relied on a Holland & Holland .500 double barrel rifle with 24" barrels and weighing 10 pounds, 5 ounces. If it had failed even once, I would not be writing these notes" so there is a rifle that will stop any animal on earth if you can shoot it, best, Mike

Good points LD and Mike!!
As a side note to this discussion, I believe, I am not sure about all the countries, but I believe in most of the countries in Africa, a repeating shotgun, pump or autoloader, it is against the law to bring them into the country. So it would have to be a double barreled shotgun of some kind and I can't think of a better weapon to use against a charging animal then a double barrel.

And Mike where were you during that conversation we were having under Chuck's topic, "Who makes the Best shotguns" I could have used a little help there you know. smile

Franc -

yep still alive and kicking. The .470 goes on walks with me far more often then the Brno. I run into buffalo and elephant almost daily, but so far no serious adventures. Might die in bed yet.
