Im going to look at a 1953 jp sauer and the owner doesn't seem to know much about the firearm. All he could tell me was that his father bought the gun in 1953 for $450.00
I would look at the date code on the underside of the barrels. Also I would ask if the gum has been shot. Interestingly, 2 3/4 inch shells fit in 2 1/2 16 ga chambers. I have 2 drillings that are off face due to the prior owner shooting 2 3/4 inch shells in the 2 1/2 inch chambers. It is rather expensive to fix a drilling that is off face.
Good luck.
