FWIW, the first two days of last fall's pheasant season here in Maine, I ran into one guy (middle-aged) hunting behind a Gordon with a Parker (and not a low-end one), and another, youngish (in his 30s, I guess) with a Model 21. The latter, I kinda took a dislike to b/c when I asked him what his gun was and complemented it, he said "It's a model 21. I had it made." That, and he had a way-too-shiny new red pickup truck with out of state plates and a clear air of superiority.

Of course, the guy with the Gordon I liked more because my Gordon got to play with his for a couple minutes while he admired my Simson in return.

And a couple weeks ago at the trap range, one of the younger guys was shooting - and pretty well - with a very well-maintained Parker he said he'd gotten from his grandfather.

Most people do not have large amounts of disposable income until they are past 50. A couple years ago the average age of a Corvette buyer was almost 55. Young man's car that only old men can afford. Double guns will find another generation to shoot them if the economy ever recovers to the point that large numbers of middle age men have lots of money to spend and enjoy. Most of them are trying to get by for now but the TV tells me better days are ahead and the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

The DHE had cut barrels and i found that out several years after i bought the gun.Someone had fixed the rib in front of sight with no matting like an original.I looked it up when i was offered it recently and it had 30" original length barrels from factory and they were cut to 26".Now if it were the XE 20 ga straight grip Fox that i foolishly sold ,i would have tried to buy it back! I'm 52 and have been interested in SxS for about 8 years now. I was a long time hunter before that. I think that, like with many things, the SxS interest/collecting bug hits at a different point in one's life than when one is "young".

You need the hunting experience and background and you need reasonable economic stability.

While most I've run into are similar in age or older then me, I have every confidence that as time passes, new people will join our ranks in the same proportions from the hunting communities as in the past.

Part of that is the openness with which we welcome newcomers, or do we conduct ourselves with an attitude of scorn for those who haven't learned as much.

My personal experience suggests to me that most SxS enthusiasts are interested and willing to share their passion and knowledge with anyone who shows genuine interest and with that attitude I believe many will be enticed into joining our ranks.

Well I'm 55 and I've always used a double sxs. When I was a kid it was a case of my shotgun is bigger than yours. I still don't care for pumps and autos although I do have a few of each. I think of them as "crunchentickers" and they just sit in the closet.

There is some new blood but I wish there were more. My son, age 28, just bought his first double on his own......a nice NID. His younger brother is also in the market for his first purchase.
