Lads I really enjoy the White Hunter stuff, you know, the hairy tales of Africa...charging (Name your nasty animal)& the sickening click of a dud primer. I could read this stuff until I die. Have a couple by Selous, Hunter, Burgers Buffalo (Sounds like a menu :))...The Wally Johnston one, also Jim Corbetts Tiger. Any must reads in this field? Have read all the Capstick stuff too, Death in long grass, Man called Lion etc Looking for a couple or three new ones cheers franc

You mention "Corbett's Tiger" - have you read his Man-Eating Leopard of Rudraprayag? My fave of my five Corbett books.

Try Robert Ruark: After 1950, Ruark began spending time in Africa, publishing Horn of the Hunter: The Story of an African Hunt (1953), about an African safari, and Something of Value (1955). Based on the Mau-Mau uprisings against British colonialists, this latter book took its title from an old Basuto proverb: "If a man does away with his traditional way of living and throws away his good customs, he had better first make certain that he has something of value to replace them." The book was a major success, earning the author more than a million dollars from royalties and the film rights.
Or James Rand. Run For The Trees Description: The savage adventure of two lusty giants struggling for possession of an incredible African slave empire
Comments: Despite the above description there a great amount of hunting/adventure included. However Shooting lions with a Thompson SMG may not be to your liking.

The Black panther of Sivanipall1,by Keneth Anderson.A vivid account of hunting the man eating panther in jungle and forest
Tiger Shooting in India [On Foot]! by William Rice,Published in 1857.A fabulous account of early hunting adventures in India.A very scarce book; perhaps reprints are available, origionals are expensive.

Franc, there is "A Hunter's Life in South Africa" by R Gordon Cumming written in the 1850's. I just received my copy from Amazon and its in great condition.
Muzzleloaders built by such names as William Moore, James Purdey and John Dickson, its good reading and to heck with those new fangled breechloaders!!

Looking at my "big game" shelf I see: the Bell Trilogy, a 5 volume Corbett set, African Game Trails, several by Ruark and one written by a long ago member of our local Magowah Gun club. It was Privately published in 1924 and until I obtain a signed copy I do not want to further increase the demand.
