I like Crossman and Whelen because they were instrumental in the early design of the bolt action custom rifles.

Townsend Whelen's grandson is collecting all the writings of TW which is a monumental job. Whelen easily wrote more than Keith and O'Connor combined.

Speaking of Crossman I have just scanned “The Metamorphosis of the New Springfield” which is fifteen pages long and if any would like a copy email me.

Kelver published a book of Pope letters titled 'Respectfully Yours, H.M. Pope".

I'm very luck because I have all the American Rifleman with the early writings of Crossman, Whelen, Keith and others. Many of "Arms and the Man" as well as a lot of "Outer's Book".

No pictures of my mess ;-), looks like what happens when you mix high explosives and books. This is the only halfway organized case.

Only showing the 'clean' books, eh?
The glass cabinet has most of the signed/inscribed books (lots of fiction), and the other photo shows the working stuff in the 'clean shop'.
How about seeing some other's libraries?

You got it right there, I see I'm not the only one who framed his magazine covers and in my case only one. smile

My most prized books are the ones that were gifts from friends and the ones signed by the authors.

This is from my copy of "The American Rifle" By Whelen 1918

There were several articles in the AR written by Barsotti as told by A.O. Niedner. Some of them have strayed a long ways from the truth.

About the only thing I remember him publishing was a letter to the editor regarding prohibition.

Not a stock maker as you are Stevie- but as one with some carpentry skills and a knowlege of load bearing, I'd be bracin' that book shelf or else lighten the load on the middle shelf- not dead nutz level under load- huum?????

I've been collecting books most of my adult life. Some of the books I got as a young man and a member of the "Outdoor Life Book of the Month Club" are close to being classics now.

I like Keith. He has to be taken at face value and while not as polished as O'Conner his writings are interesting to me. I have several O'Conner as well and enjoy him too. Whelen is a favorite as well. I have always tended to buy books that interested me at the moment and consequently have not been able to build any complete collections.

My books are all in boxes right now as we work on a family room/man cave remodel. Here are a couple of pictures of the library to be. Both are built by me from Alaskan birch I harvested and had sawed into rough cut lumber. I milled the lumber after a little over a year of drying. I have a moisture meter to assure the moisture content is around 6-8%. There is one more, a reloading hutch with doors and drawers and one book shelf for reloading manuals. It is still in the shop in a state of near completion. A desk will round out the furnishings but I haven't started on that yet.

The final work on this library has to wait till our Alaskan summer and fall are over. Too many salmon to be caught and there is moose out there with my name on it this year. Makes it a pain to do any reading or reloading. I am driving my wife crazy with searching through boxes for a particular reloading tool or that one book I want to read again.

This is a built in bookcase minus the shelve, doors and drawer.

A free standing bookcase minus the shelves.

Michael, I like you double stack gun racks. Would you mind PMing me the specifications(blueprints if you will), such as spacing, shape of cuts, barrel retainers and wall attachment?
