Just to check, I just did it with one of mine. Trigger lock looks to be exact same model I just used.

James

Good point Steve that I missed. If this is in fact just a regular trigger guard lock it shouldn't prevent dis-assembly of the gun.

Interesting... so in the spirit of learning. What internally would prevent the gun from opening? How to solve it? The forearm can in fact be removed.

It doesn't appear to have a Greener crossbolt so there must be something else awry with the toplever Purdey underlug mechanism. The overall shape of the receiver & the stock combined with the term "Sons" pretty much rules out Germanic in my book. It could however be a Belgian sourced longarm but it looks British. What type forend does it have and what is the difficulty in reading the top rib: Gothic script or something of the like? Also is there a Cockerill steel stamp anywhere? With the posted images, I wouldn't have divulged I knew anything about photography.

Kind Regards,

If, after a thorough examination, you decide you want this gun, make a ridiculously low offer. I have found Bass Pro pretty easy to deal with and have bought and traded for some great guns there. I'm pretty sure I'm way ahead on my Bass pro deals.

You fellers notice it doesn't use the Scott spindle but some arrangement way behind the standing breech. Bet'cha something has come unhooked inside that is preventing the locking lug from retracting.

Joe,
I think you hit on the problem, I had my 16 gauge French guild gun apart and the top lever was connected inside to the locking lug by a small bolt. If that bolt ever failed the top lever would move around as if it had a broken top lever spring, but the bolt wouldn't retract. It shouldn't be hard to get to it by removing the stock, just a few small bolts and screws.

The stamped name is shallow/worn to the point its tough to read even with a flashlight. If it's worn, then the barrels have been reblued. As dirty as the rest of the gun is, it may just be filled with gunk! HA! I'll look for the Cockerill stamp when I get back over there. Wish I could get it open in the store.

At the risk of insulting your photographic sensibilities, here is a shot of the schnabel forend. wink

But you are right. My cell phone doesn't quite do what my normal cameras do... but if you buy it for me I'll photograph it more along these lines to make you feel better wink

Really Bob? I didn't get the impression that they even wanted to sell these guns, let alone deal on them.

That's good to know though. I mean it literally has been there for three years. If I could get it for stupid cheap I might do it just to get it running and cleaned up. I think the wood would really be beautiful if it was cleaned up.

Now you've got the right spirit. Buy it, fix it yourself, and rekindle your relationship with the 12. It would be a good gun to have fun fixing up. Might even be a diamond in the rough, at the right price of course.
