Frank is right about the 2 3/4" HE but Buckingham interest and fashion dictate the 3" HE in 32" is the one to have. Bismuth makes a nice 2 3/4" 1 3/4oz #4 load that works well in any HE. (the ducks, even at Beaver Dam don't know it's not a 3" shell, really, I asked a dying gadwall there one time..) Actually, the "best buy" in classic waterfowling 3" doubles is without question, the L.C. Smith Wild Fowl/Long Range in a 30" field grade. I've seen them languishing at gunshows for $1500...just check for the factory 3 in. chamber marking in an oval on the flats and the reinforced short rib. It will do anything an HE will do but they are a bit more fragile in the stock area and a pound+ lighter.
I am off to Argentina for the last week of duck season next week and I am bringing a 32" M21 3" 12g Duck and a 30" M21 3" 20ga Magnum both f/f with splinter/straight grips with an extra set of open 28" barrels (fo' dem teals")...and just to set the record straight, I have never been to a Metallica, KISS or Whitesnake concert...
