Hello All,

I am new to the forum and recently had a German drilling handed down to me. I have been reluctant to find much information on this drilling via the internet but from what I have found I believe it to be a Griefelt drilling. The drilling is a 16ga side by side with a 7.7mm rifled lower barrel. Any information would be greatly appreciated or suggested literature to research.

At a quick glance it is indeed Greifeldt, either a model 500 or 530 Blitz action. The FN pad is a later addition. Interesting trademark on the underside along with the Griffin. 8x57 caliber and looks to have been made between WW1 &
1923

Thank you Raimey for the info. I have yet to clean the shotgun as I was instructed not to and leave it the way it is by a friend. I did get to shoot the shotgun last year as I used it when we went squirrel hunting. I don't know when the last time the 7.7mm (8x57) barrel was shot. I intended to use it as a bird gun for Quail hunting here in New Mexico. At this point I think I might be leaving this one in the safe for awhile.

I'll have more info when I get home this eve, but I don't think the lower screw in the triggerplate to be original. It wouldn't hurt to wipe the dreil�ufer pretty aggressive with oil and a rag. There are a few marks below the 7.7mm 57 that might point to a craftsmen or maybe a date. It was brought to my attention that the scattergun chambers are 65mm or 2 1/2" length and also I didn't note but there are several 8x57 variants like the 8x57R360, which is a favorite of mine. A chamber cast of wax or Cerrosafe will yield the culprit.

If I need to get a "Better" picture of any marking I can definetly do that. I was going to post the barrel marking tonight as described in the edit above. I also have another picture showing the serial number also.

Just below that wide forend hanger there's either a NN or MM stamp and a Krupp steel stamp that might yield some insight. Given the condition you might want to rub the marks with chalk or soap.

Yes, a Greifeldt Model 500 with a proof date of 3(8)/28(26) but difficult to tell. The proofdate is adjacent to the S just ahead of the forward lug under the "57". 13 gram bullet weight for the cartridge. Is there a "Nitro" stamp on the sides of the scattergun tubes? The Model 500 had a crossbolt, sideclips, automatic pop-up sight when the solid projectile tube is selected, devoid of engraving & with either Krupp or B�hler tube steel.

Thanks again Raimey, I was unable to get the pics done last night and posted. I will get them on today and look for markings noted in your reply. I don't recall the Nitro stamps but will verify. I will try the soap method and clarify the proof date also. Again thank you for your help!

The gun does have an automatic pop-up sight, crossbolt, not sure about sideclips? Will update OP with a few other pictures today!

Yet another marking - StmG and 13gn?

Bushed and disk set strikers on all chambers and frame sideclips.
March of 1927 is when this Blitz dreiling made the final pass thru the Suhl proofhouse. The "S" beside it may have been coupled with a "l" for "Sl" and was a tube forge mark for someone. The "Crown" over "N" along with the "StmG over 13gr." is for a 13 gram steel jacket bullet. 7,7mm is the pre-rifled diameter and just may point toward a 0.318" bullet. The stamp "NN" just aft of the forend hanger is a tough one and there were just a few mechanics with "N" or a last name much less a first. But it could be for an entity. Franz Neumann, Adolf Niemeyer(sourced Belgian pistols) & the von Nordhelm of Mehlis round out the ones I can recall right off. A wax chamber cast would reveal the cartridge but you could measure the distance to the shoulder and see if a 8x57IR might drop in the chamber. Also a measurement of the rifled tube diameter will give the bullet diameter or slug the bore. 8x57IR are pretty common but the 8x57R/360 are pretty elusive.
