Hello All,

My friend Jani would like to know your opinions as to a realistic value for this
12 bore Purdey he is looking at. Serial 116xx (c.1890?), self-opener, "very good" condition.

The picture above is the "original" and this one is "fixed":

Lets see what you can come up with with the information at hand.

Early thanks,

JC

J.C. this Purdey is on offer at the German E-Gun at 4000 € , you can bid on that gun till august 3. I also ask myself why nobody bid on that gun, so I keep en eye on it. The gun looks in good shape, but the owner not want export the gun. So if you finish the highest bidder you have to pick it up in Bonn
Here is the link: http://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=3411981
Of course if the barrels are good at 4000 € it is a good buy.
Jani live not far from Bonn, so he can drive to Bonn.
Marc.

That's an early action and perhaps not as nice as the later actions, it's bound to be a non-ejector (or a later conversion).

Maybe it's just the photo angle, but it seems to have a lot of DAH, especially for a British gun. Why is the wood so dark?

Engraving quite worn also? Can't really tell. I wouldn't buy it without seeing it!

The wood looks well worn and oil soaked to me...the wood fit looks bad in the photo...the engraving is worn.

Bore condition ?

How much is a rode hard Purdey worth ?

Homey Joe is right. This thing's a junker. Sloppy wood fit, bad bore and flogged out engraving. How could a shop like Purdey allow such dog to still exist? They ought to buy it, sell tickets, and feed it through a shredder in front of Audley House!

So rode Homey Joe.

Looks like a nice old gun. I dont have a Purdey and would be proud to have that old girl in my collection if it was at the right price in Australia.

What is it about these old guns that draws us in?

I never said I'd kick her out of bed....

Strange how the rose scroll engraving always shows wear on the older Purdeys.
