Looks like a pretty cool old, old Purdey to me. I LOVE the carved fences. Wonder if she has intercepting sears with only five pins?? Kinda doubt it. I'm with jOe though, if the barrels are sound I don't think I'd kick her out of bed either. Under $10k for sure though. She is kinda saggy with tons of drop in the stock....just like the old boys from yesteryear liked.

Beautiful gun, but used hard and often!! I wonder what the history is behind that gun? Maybe used in Africa or India with their harsh climates?

The action/receiver looks suspect to me. The steel is a uniform color and that color looks like aluminum (NOT saying it is)and the engravihng so worn it looks like it was stamped and not cut. I wouldn't be surprised if some clown sandblasted it at some point of "restoration".
And yeah, the wood does look oil soaked.
The whole piece somehow doesn't "hang" together well, it looks piecemeal rather than whole.

Aluminum?? No way. Give the old girl a break. She's probably 110-120 years old and I bet she will still fire a cap. I bet too if one stripped 120 yrs worth of grime and muck off the stock they might find something special too.

Marc did say he knew it wasn't aluminum. I guess it maybe an American mindset that guns as expensive as a Purdey don't get used, this gun and many others prove differantly. My beef comes from articles that appear in the Wall Street Journal and others that describe incredibly expensive guns of investment quality and the novice reader is perplexed as too why they are so expensive and figure, incorrectly, that its just 'in the name'.
But after additional study of the subject they eventually come to realize that the name was EARNED and not given.

With kind regards, Jani This figure equates to just a little under $6000 US. I think that is a fair and really pretty good deal if the barrels are sound. With the way the stock market has gone this past week I would rather be in the Purdey market. At least this thing will probably be worth more down the road and one can use and enjoy it. Gee Whiz, the stock market really scares me with all the volatility.
