Randy,

I'll pass on anything I learn. BPI's ballistian the Curmudgeon, responded to me that he shoots ducks with a 10 Gauge LC Smith Speciality. He is also interested in low pressure data for ITX. If we can get more shooters to request low pressure data perhaps BPI will put this task at the top of their do list!

Per your question, I do not know if ITX is as good as Nice Shot. I bought 14 pounds of ITX when it was on sale last month. I figure if it doesn't kill geese at 60 yards as quickly as does my 1 3/8 oz 1200 FPS low pressure load of Nice Shot #2, for the cost reduction I can shoot 1 1/2 oz or even 1 5/8 oz of ITX BB's. I also bought about 7 pounds of Nice Shot so I hope to do a barrel to barrel comparison of similar loads.

A couple friends on mine shot ITX #4's (1 ounce loads, I think...)last year in vintage guns with good results.

I recently purchased NICE shot instead of ITX because one can "supposedly" use the same lead loading data for NICE shot.

A "different source" suggests that substituting NICE shot adds about 1,500 p.s.i. to the same load.

There is really a lack of good solid info on this topic. I hope the situation improves for those of us that do hunt with twist/damascus barreled shotguns.

Jerry,

The Eco Tungsten (manufacturer of Nice Shot) website states to add 1500 PSI when replacing lead. One does however need to search for it.

My own experiance is that I encountered "flattened primers" on some early loads which caused me to investigate. I discovered this on the Eco Tungsten Reinventing Lead blog:

"Big Dan said...

Nice Shot is 10.2g/cc a little lighter than magnum lead shot as I stated in earlier posts. What is happening is Nice Shot being a bit harder 14~16 Brinell ( lead 11~13 ) when fired it does not absorb the energy of the acceleration like lead does. Thus causing a slight increase in pressure. This is why we recommend staying 1500 psi lower than the maximum allowable for the gauge you are loading for. And yes, other harder shot alloys will do the same.

Also, from: http://www.niceshotinc.com/

" "Nice Shot" has a slightly higher chamber
pressure than an equal lead load
.

Precision Reloading's Technical Support will help you with your
loading questions and data. They can be contacted at 605-996-9984
to speak with a technician 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM CST.

Some of their loading data is at Shotgun World."

The curmudgeon sent me a reply that wasn't very promising, it just stated that BPI has over 300 loads using ITX. Hopefully they will come through with low-pressure data using components such as CB wads and remington hulls.

I've been shooting nice shot for a couple of years now and go through about 10-15 pounds a year. My Elsie loves nice shot.

I got my pressure data from Precision and I'm taking ducks with a 7/8oz load of #5 with authority out to 50+ yards.
