I suspect that gunman is more than likely correct, given the age of the gun. At some point in its past life it's barrels were also probably replaced as they are steel and not Damascus. I would anticipate that, if the triggers were "wrong" they would have been corrected at that time.
In any case, I'm pleased to know that, while the trigger/barrel relationship may be unusual, its not unheard of in a gun of this vintage.
