Our local gunshop recently acquired this Greener 12 w/ Damascus barrels; no obvious markings as to model or grade. The crossbolt does not exit the left side of receiver. I offered to post some pix here to find out more about this beautiful gun. Thank you for any help.

Almost certainly an early Royal grade and well worth considering to buy if the price is right. If you have the serial number I can give a rough idea of age. Also please check the proof marks. Lagopus.....

Facile Princeps, Greener's counter to the Anson & Deeley Action Body. As Lagopus said it looks to be an early one.

It looks like an early upper middle grade Royal Grade with the serpentine fences with the scallopes. Has the crown emblem on the top lever. I believe you could get either Rose and Scroll or the Game Scene like you posted. Probably from the 1890's. Should also have a nice checking design.
Also on the higher grades the cross bolt did not ezit the fence.

To me, it looks like it could be a G-gun. FP usually aren't so bulbous on the bottoms and their are some other things about the action that look strange.

Can you take the bbls off and take a pic of the lumps? The cocking/ejector work will give it away.

Looks like FP to me. Mines a G50 I think, it looks VERY similar. However the crown on the top I think makes it a "Royal". I could find out for definate

There may be a lockup type stamp atop the rib and a permission of use stamp on the standing breech.

Greener may have patented it a year earlier in Britian but Westley Richards took him to task via the British courts in 1881 and lost.

I'm just going from memory, but I though after Greener ceased using the A & D Body Action and won the law suit that his Action Bodys were based on the Facile Princeps, or Easily the Chief. I think there was an Empire & Unique actions but I can't recall much on the Unique. Maybe the Empire designed differed from the Facile Princeps with the omission of a cocking rod or different orientation? There were some Berlin firearms merchants(Max Fisher) and at least 1 Sauer that have that pregnant looking action.

Are the fences defined as the James Dalzell Dougall type?

Your Greener is an early Self-Acting ejector model probably from around 1890. I had one almost identical to it that had S/N 399XX that was made around the time of the 1892 Chicago Exposition and sold through their N.Y office.If you write to Greener,they can tell you every workman who touched that gun as it was built and what they were paid for their portion of the work,as well as shipping date.Also, when you operate this type design, you have to open it to full open position to actuate ejectors(off main springs),and properly cock the hammers.It also has intercepting sears just as all other Best grades. The Imperial(G70), and Exhibition grades were the only higher grades Greener built in this time frame. Best regards, Marcus

Craig, your gun is a Unique Ejector System "G" gun as opposed to the earlier patent Self Acting Ejector "G" gun.

Just a word of causion, if you are considering a purchase make sure you look at the cocking and ejector mechanism very closely ( looks like someone has been at it) they are extremely difficult to get right again, needs to be worked on by someone who knows what they are doing...I speak from experience
