Alas, my supply of discretionary income is spoken for. Even though the gun is fairly priced, someone else will eventually be its caretaker. Thanks again for all your information and advice.

Here is an FP Greener in pieces and a Philadelphia Fox in pieces..........there is no engineering parallel that I can see between these two guns.........from the FP's dual sears per hammer, to it's intricate spring system these guns are like day and night......... Fox's have coil hammer springs and a rotary locking bolt........calling them 'close in resemblance' would be a real stretch I.M.O............

It's like the difference between a Spitfire and a Hurricane mate......

But what about the basic idea of how the guns are cocked?

I always thought Ansley's and Greener FP's systems were too close to be coincidence. To me, the Fox looks like a very simplified version.

Greeners were very popular in America in Ansley's time, so he was familiar with them and how they worked.

I've had lot's of Fox hammers out, they don't look even similar to a Greeners hammers......nor does the Greener hammer leaf spring system.....................all Fox's use a power piston that cocks the coil hammer spring.....take a close look......

Fox's have a very short stroke cocking geometry......

I had the pleasure of meeting the great nephew of Mr A fox at a trade function in London this year ,he told some tales of his uncles business ventures. It would seem Mr Fox was something of a showman who's business ethics may not have been whiter than white. It would therefore be of no surprise if he did not ,shall we say "borrow ideas" from others . The whole of the gun trade in the late 19th and early 20th centuries were all trying to out do each other and get around each others patents. Greener and Bonehill for example, went to court over supposed infringement of patents.
