I took my DD Kaiser to just one planted bird hunt last year. He caught one pheasant on the ground, and ran down three chukars on the wing. Four birds, no shots fired. He went to a trainer this year, and while he still wants to chase once the bird is in the air at least he points now.

I can most likely help with the cuss words. GSGT. Ray C Birch taught me some I have been afraid, so far, to use in this country. I do love English pointers, my Dad always had 2 or 3 around. I hunted over some in Nebraska last year, belonging to Don Dack...When you could see em, they were awesome.

My Lab is almost 6 now. She really has turned out very well for upland work, even though not the ideal quail/chukar breed. She will be impossible to match as a companion dog. That was one reason Britney's were a consideration. The fact that the Lab is almost 6 and she had a ACL injury last year that hasn't completely healed, is why I wanted to get another dog going. So, I figured it was time to see how the other half lives and get a pointing dog.

Well Chuck, there is an ancient and honorable tradition that demands pointing dog owners trash talk each other's dogs. Just giving you an early lesson so you won't be in shock when we actually meet. And don't feel bad that you can't keep up with me because I have had thirty years to gather up my material. I must have a couple of thousand insults, sarcastic comments, and one-liners that apply to (other's) pointing dogs.

Best,

Mike

Geo and Chuck. Those white dogs sure stand out in the field. Do either of you use a locator collar to keep up with their where abouts? Sure feels good that bird season is within a month. Early goose, then grouse/woodcock. Randy

Randy,
I'm planning on a GPS collar. For the lab, there's no need. She's a very close hunter.
