Shouldn't have mentioned cyanide process. Ed will now think the metal's been overcooked AND poisoned. He appears to have heard of those '03 receivers which were indeed overcooked. I've never heard of glassy fracture in shotgun frames; perhaps Ed can supply a documented case.

old Ed Landers say's that you don't have to heat the metal much more than 1200 degreesF to get colors and case hardening.and at that temp. you won't through harden.

This has me wondering. How do you use cyanide to case color without joining the next flight out? Must be a very treacherous process!
