Oscar Gaddy said the same thing several times. I tended to listen to whatever Dr. Gaddy said. Pretty sure I didn't spell Oscar's last name correctly.

I thought I read here that Del Greco uses the cyanide process to get the correct colors for the Parker guns. Stevens must have used it also on the 311's etc. at the factory as they are very vibrant colors and unlike true bone/charcoal CC. Not like the torch applications either.

Cyanide CCH....

Yes, Del Greco did-does, Fox did (after 1910-11), Savage did, Stevens did, Parker did and on and on.........quite common....some of the Uberti and other modern Italian guns as well still do, as an example, some of the new Beretta S x S's with CCH look to be Cyanide treated...?......

The cheap single shot H & R shotguns/rifles did and the new company that builds them still does, New England Arms or whatever they are called.

There is a distinct difference between the color patterns of Cyanide and Bone/Charcoal......indeed, quite easy to spot.....

The real cheap Cyanide CCH jobs look almost 'layered' on.......

That's why a nice Fox or Sterlingworth or Parker that has bone and charcoal CCH restoration doesn't look quite right............

Huh? All the early (pre-Remington) Parkers were bone/charcoal CCH.

After Marlin Firearms Co acquired the Hunter Arms Company, the color case hardening process on the LC Smith gun was also modified utilizing cyanide.

to see a 1910 vintage parker with lots of original case color, see gunbroker item # 246343630. keep in mind that these colors have darkened and faded somewhat in the last 100 years. i have noticed that the earlier the parker the brighter the colors. when remington took over in the 30's, the colors got lighter and brighter again.

keep it simple and keep it safe...

Wild Skies...

Please read the Fox Book "Best Gun in The World"...it explains what the factory used.....and when..... All Fox and Sterlingworth guns were "Cyanide Case Colored" except for the first two years...........please read the book and know the facts......

Here is a factory color hardened Sterlingworth Frame, circa 1928.....look for yourself, Cyanide hardened........

Replacement:....The Parker experts can answer for Parker's Case Colors, dates and methods.......quite sure they were Cyanide colored originally.........
