battle: you could be right. he may have been deceiving me and thousands of other customers for the past 65 years or so...but i some how doubt it. the public does not continue to deal with people they do not trust.

mike: i cannot speak to the potential liability reduction policies of others.
asking someone who claims to be an expert at what he does to guarantee that he does no harm in the course of doing his work does not seem unreasonable to me.
and finally, i try to recognise chrispy desiccattions when i see them. however, the proof is in the shooting.

So your guns that Mr. Landers case colors come with said guarantee? I mean this guarantee:
"Make sure that you get it in writing, that if the receiver warps in the heating and tempering process or that if it cracks after firing, then the mechanic will assume full financial responsibility for the destruction of your gun and/or your personal injury"
Would be riciculous if they did. But it is just as ridiculous for you to advise neophytes to get that guarantee from Doug Turnbull.
Best,
Mike

mike: the guarantee you reference does not apply to old ed's work as he does not use a high heat process in his re coloring work.
what is your fixation with doug turnbull?

Ed and Turnbull are both mechanics heating up old shotgun actions. No reasonable gunsmith would give the guarantee I copied off of your post six or seven posts back. sounds like you have never re hardened a shotgun receiver. well, neither have i. so, neither one of us really knows what we are talking about here, right? And since you already admitted you don't know anything about case hardening how do you have enough knowledge to advise others to demand the guarantee from Doug Turnbull? You don't know anything about it. If you call any gunsmith up in the country and tell him you are going to require that guarantee in writing he will hang up on you, including Ed Landers. You can defend Ed Landers' process and skills without attacking bone charcoal case hardening. I am not attacking Ed's process or skills, I am just saying there is nothing wrong with bone charcoal case hardening done by a comptetent gunsmith. And the fact that the smith doing hardening will not give the ridiculous guaranatee you are advising us to demand is not an indication of a problem. You and Mr. Landers won't give that guarantee either. Best, Mike

mike: i have never had a problem with any of old ed's work that he did not fix to my satisfaction. therefore, i see no reason to demand a potential liability guarantee from him.
what others demand from doug turnbull is none of my business.
i do not trust anyone professing to be an expert at the high heat bone charcoal shotgun receiver re hardening trade. i have seen to many botched jobs to have any confidence in their consistency.
