Buy a quart of Mobil 1 0W20 synthetic motor oil. When you open it, smell it and see if it doesn't smell just like some expensive gun oils.


I'll not forget the late Ike Ellis, of Idaho Falls, Rexburg and Iona, Idaho, a top drawer stockmaker and gunsmith, used 30W motor oil (I don't remember the brand) as a preservative and on hinges and knuckles. Said he'd used it for decades, had yet to have it gum up or have a gun rust with it on it.
