Hey SGJ: I thought airline pilots made a fortune! What did you buy? I know what you mean when you say enough is enough. I think this gun buying can almost turn into a sickness. I mean you can only shoot one at a time...well maybe two. But holy cow, how many guns are enough? I hope the disease doesn't afflict me again for awhile. I don't need anymore guns either even at bargain basement prices.

K-20, two barrel set. Estate of a friend. I just could not bear to see it leave the 'family'. It was the right thing to do, and I'm not complaining but it has resulted in 'gun poverty'.

Airline pilots used to make a fortune. Now, you're just lucky if the company lasts longer than you do.

I work for a regional cargo carrier... it's steady, but I have H&H tastes on a Remington budget.

Sounds nice. I like Krieghoff's too. Super competition guns to say the least. Gun poverty is prob worth that.

Im spending less on everything. Fewer gun purchases. No overseas vacations. No new car. Less sushi. I dont shoot as much either. I would like to pick up a few more guns but, so what if prices fall 25% if your income falls 30%?

I will not resume normal spending until the business climate improves and I get back to 2008 income. The recession seems intractable in my industry.

The black gun market has me baffled. The stuff looks boring and overpriced but, I cant completely dismiss the inclinations of that many consumers. Maybe they know something I don't.

I'm in the same boat as shotgunjones.

BUT
I can probably never afford a rolls royce or a mansion, but i can afford a best gun (lower end, but still)
Even a bespoke CSMC

all with lots of savings and years worth and probably only one in my life

but................

and yeah, low end in high end guns is slow from what I see.

If I see something that I want, or think that I want, I still buy it. Might be more likely to keep looking unless it is something that I have been looking for for a long time if the price is not very attractive. Over priced guns do not get a second look and we all know that the market is down, way down in some areas.

I just picked up a Lefever DS 20 from this board and then two sets of barrels to replace the heavily pitted ones. It was well described as a parts gun or project gun and it was fairly priced. Had it been 100-150 higher I would have passed and not looked back. Also picked up two .410 Cresent doubles to make into quail guns for preserve birds. Total for all three was not that much and Winter is coming.

Now is a good time to be buying if you have wants and cash in hand. Not a good time to be using the rent money, to buy a gun to sell at a profit in the short time frame. But there are some decent shooters out there that are being sold for not that much money. And when you get right down to it I have too many guns that I never get to shoot to buy a few more collectors. I am more into shooters these days. No more high grade closet queens or pristine guns. I rather buy three shooters and use them than one queen to hide away in the gun room.

I concur with the gent'man from the Bluegrass State-ook at GA and GI websites and all the overly high priced Parkers, Foxes, Smith, even some Ithaca NID's and the SBT's- they are just sitting there waiting out the "greater fool' theory again--I predict that the "high end dealers" will be trying to unload some of their guns to stay cash liquid- but the lower end using guns- the ones we hunt and shoot with-actually use-- I bought two early Ithaca Flues Grade 1 doubles- DT, EXT- but good wood, metal and function- a 20 with 28" barrels for $575 and a 28 ga. with 26" barrels for $800- try buying a decent Parker VH or PH in either of those "midget" gauges for that kind of money- good full stocks with good current dims- unaltered, just two "plain Jane" shooters- As far as the "Queens" re: shotguns- look to Limey land- Eric Crapton unloaded some of his 'investment grade guns" at auction, some never shot-- but the real term of Queen only comes into play if Elton John or the late Freddy Mercury owned a matched pair of Hollands or Boss guns- Queens indeed..

Eric Clapton's Boss O/U's were all old 12 bore dogs with little case color left that went off in 2010 via Gavin Gardner.

He sold a bunch of nice pairs in 2008 of Purdey, Watson, Evans and H & H

Eric Clapton sold his extensive guitar collection, now I hear from Clif W he's also selling his guns, what is up with that?

Next thing you know he'll be selling the fur hat he swiped from Ginger Baker!
