Stan,
You've pretty much proven what I've often said, within 25-30 yards .410's do surprizingly well. I think it's because maybe with all the shot scuffing that goes on inside the barrel the pattern opens up quicker, but that's just a guess.

You may be right about that, Steve. My gun has mod. and full chokes, and on real close doves it just didn't seem like I was shooting that tight a pattern. 'Course, with that little bit of shot it's hard to tell what is happening exactly.

Forgot to mention that in the limit yesterday was three doubles, right and lefts. Once your brain realizes the little gun is much lighter than your others, and you stop overrunning birds, you can make some really quick shots with it.

Also you don't have that annoying recoil to deal with. Once I shot a pheasant that was pretty high in the air. By the way he was flapping as he fell I figured I'd just winged him and he'd run off when he hit the ground, so I shot him again before he hit the ground. Without that annoying recoil you can get off a second shot really quick.

Top drawer shooting. If I ever did that I would issue press releases.
Jackson will have some great daydreaming at school after this weekend.

OK Stan, you stuck to your brag about opening with the popgun; it looks like you made good on it too. I had a hard enough time with my 12ga though, so I think the .410 would'a been a waste for ME. Congratulations on some fine shooting and you're a lucky guy to have a Granson like that.

Monday was a sporty proposition down here. The rain wasn't bad, but the tropical storm winds made shooting doves like trying to hit flying monkeys. Goodness gracious, I love dove season!...Geo

Stan,
The price difference between a box of 20g and .410 is payment for that bigger smile it puts on your face. It's a bargain to me.

Saturday was a proper opening day over on this side of the state. The doves acted appropriately, floating in like balloons on occasion with "what, me worry?" attitudes. Sunday was different, on an unshot field, the wind was brisk and they came in acting like late season birds and I shot accordingly. Gil

You're a good man, George. It would be my singular honor to share a bird field with you someday.

Thanks, everyone, for the kind words about Jackson. God has indeed been gracious to me.
