CSMC has listed on Guns International several of their RBL guns in 'Special Reserve' and 'Gallery' configurations for $12,000-13,000! My question is what is so 'special' about these two configurations that they can command so much money?? They sure don't look that much different than the generic RBL IMO. Are people really paying what seems to be a ludicrous sum of money for these things? Personally, I would rather have an original 'graded' Model 21 Winchester or even an old Purdey bar action sidelock, non-ejector for a similar sum of money! Any other opinions?

I put this in the same category as paying $16k for a Beretta Jubilee. Both makers will tell you that the price reflects premium engraving but adding $10k of engraving to a $3-4k gun doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
With a little looking you could find a very nice Dickson for that price . . . .
Such a long, long time to be gone, and a short time to be there.

Don't even ask me what I think of RBLS.......LOL!! Model 21 all the way for sure

Buzz, Those guns have been for sale awhile, and will likely remain so! My opinion, RBL's are a very good 3K gun, made to be used. adding 4x wood and abundant engraving doesn't change that by much. There is a launch edition 20 on GI that is under 3K and should sell at close to that price.

Someone once made a comment about putting lipstick on a pig...No matter how you dress up an RBL, it remains an RBL. I guess I would rather spend the same amount of money, 2-4K on a good workaday Lefever or Scott that had some craftsmanship in it..

Amen. I encountered mediocre quality in my Launch Edition 20. There is no comparison in fit, finish, and workmanship between that RBL and my 21's, British boxlocks, or even my tired old BSS.

Last Dollar,
It's your dollar(s)! I wanted a gun I could use, without special care and feeding, or undue concern. I have a few old classics and they are great guns, just not very accomodating.

The beauty of an RBL is in the shooting. I smile more every time I pick mine up. The dynamics of the 28" 20 ga. are second to none. They were a great choice in the 3k$ range. (The barrel "engraving" is of course ugly as sin)

I think thats the gun's niche, very competent 3-4k gun that will serve most well. The lipstick on a pig deal is very apt, its heart is a 4k gun and a good one. I guess I was just expecting more

Yes, the RBLs are ugly junk and worth much less than the (+-) $3500 original price. --shinbone
