I see a renaissance in respect for even 25" guns, especially if they are Churchill guns.

On subguage, I find 27" to be about perfect.

I think there is a bigger philosophical change that is dictating the interest in longer guns and disdain for short guns in some shooting circles: shooting style.

Hunting is on the decline and shooting is on the incline. I bet less than 20% of the guys at the gun club hunt. How does this matter? If you hunt you learn the Churchill method, natural method, or Orvis wingshooting method. Natural shooting is about drawing the gun on game and firing and for that reason, short barrels are not a negative and may be a big plus.

If all you do is trap, you get bad habits with long barrels that are not conducive to how you would approach a wild game target. I'm a mediocre trap shot but I always outperform these trap wizards in the field.

Short barrel guys are hunters, long barrel guys are shooters. Fair enough stereotyping?
