Joe,

As I remember what happened was at that time Cliff was perfecting his process for reboring double rifles and that was his first priority. Everything else got put on the back burner.

When I had Cliff La Bounty do a rebore for me about 10 years ago it took about 18 months so things are getting better.

From what I can gather, a lot depends upon just how many similar-size jobs he has waiting. Machine re-setup is time consuming and AFAIK most reborers have waited until they had enough jobs of a certain size to make the lost time economical. For instance I used to use Bob Snapp and have always been super-satisfied with the results, but if I sent him more than one size job it always took a lot longer. 3 or 4 rifles all to the same bore size took less than a year but the same 3 or 4 rifles to 2 different bore sizes always took a lot longer.
Regards, Joe

Don,

I'm not ignoring you I thought I would have time to get a picture before now.

It's a Winchester 94 action with all the parts of a 64 Winchester.

Like the Ballard of last year that I wanted to use just the action until I fired it, I just did the same with this rifle. I cleaned it up and found a mint bore and took it too the range.

It did not have a rear barrel sight but I had one that fit in the parts stuff.

At 50 yards I fired one and put the elevator in then one more and drifted the sight and fired a three shot group.

Too bad but it's still going to be a 38-55, I always liked the model 64 but thought it should have been made in 38-55, like Burger King, I'm going to have it my way.

Picture when I get around to it!

My Marlin .38-55 has a .375 bore after much contemplation. Never regretted it, shoots Hornaday jacketed extremely well or 250 gr., .277 flat nose cast.

If you will, post some pictures of the gun as it is now. That seems a shame to attack that barrel!

I think it's sensible to go .375" and I'm sure that's what I will do.

The rifle came with a Marbles tang sight but I replaced it.

I've looked for years for a 64 with a bad bore and never found one. This is a 1905 action and 1939 Model 64 parts, the collector value is gone.

Anyone have a 64 barrel with a bad bore I'll trade you barrels.

Hi,
What is the corrosion, at least it appears to be in the pic, to the right of the proof mark?

Just curious

What's the history of this M64 be chambered for 38-55?
