I posted up on the main board, here http://www.doublegunshop.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=245721#Post245721 that I have a 12 ga Simson 35E/70, proofed 10/79, boxlock with ejectors, with a broken right hammer spring. My smith says he's having trouble finding the part and it's been in the shop for a month. Any help finding such part would be greatly appreciated. I'd probably go for the pair, just to be safe. Thanks!

Coil spring with strut, or a leaf or V-spring design? I have two cigar boxes full of hammer, sear and mainsprings for both boxlock and sidelock guns- fotos of the broken spring and the unbroken one would help-- You are 100% right- just as with a garage door set of tension springs- if one fails, replace both with new ones as a set- a "matched pair" as it were.

You may ask Merkel www.merkel-usa.com AFAIK their side-by-sides are still of essentially the same design. In GDR times s/ss were exported under the Simson, o/us under the Merkel trademark.

Do you still have the boxes of springs? I need to replace two hammer springs of v-spring design on a french boxlock. Will send pix and dimensions if you still have extras.

Bumped and thanks!
I got a spring from Merkel USA. They shipped it directly to my smith within a couple days and my smith finished the work earlier this week, while I was out of town. I picked up the gun today.
I'd like to thank everyone on the site for their help.
And, Run, I will send you either the broken spring or the dimensions so we can see if you have any that will fit in your stockpile.

Sounds good- I am not surprised at the good response you received from Merkel. They are a first class operation, and the firearms they build are world-class indeed. I wish i could afford one (or two)!!
