Chuck, there are many patterns. I'll try to post some.
Steve, did you happen to see a manufacturer's name on that "rib-tickler"? It would be interesting to see if it was US-made. I think Winchester also used a rolling die machine. There are still a few around and woe unto those thinking a clean, ribbed model 12 is "original".
It's funny, a turn-of-the century machine I saw in Suhl-which had been used for boring revolver cylinders- came from the US. Of course, the Germans had their own proprietary stuff too. As it is now, industry was Global. Liege, Birmingham, New Haven, Suhl, Val Trompe; they all traded or stole technology and workers. The British bought their machinery for The Enfield Arsenal from us, and I'm sure the textile mills here picked up plenty of stuff in Manchester. Krupp sold canon to whomever had the cash and Mausers were shipped everywhere on earth. The high command in Berlin was sorely peeved when their gunboats charging up the Yangtze during the Boxer Rebellion were fired upon by Krupp canon! What really hurt was that the Chinese had purchased more modern artillery than that carried by German navy......
