Unless the hunter is decrepit or disabled, I don't like the use of turkey decoys for hunting Gobblers. I have a buddy who couldn't hear a gunshot five feet away. He has no choice but to use decoys because he can't hear a gobble. For those with no disability, the proliferation of the use of turkey decoys has taken a lot of the sport out of turkey hunting. Sitting and waiting for a shot over decoys from a blind has replaced woodsmanship and calling. While not unethical or illegal, the use of decoys has delayed development of turkey hunting skills in those entering the sport besides being a PIA to carry and pretty much eliminates running and gunning for gobblers.

" Ruffed Grouse or Woodcock hunting would be extremely difficult to shoot under most circumstances". This may be an indicator of how poor the programme producers may be at the subject matter. The word you were looking for Sir was 'film'.
No, I'm sorry. You are wrong. Film is a specific term that, when used as a verb, indicates the use of motion picture film. Film has not been used on a regular basis in the production of outdoor television for many years. Videotape may be used as a verb describing acquiring scenes using videotape. But now it is as likely as not that some combination of videotape and solid state digital media will be used for acquisition. In that case I used exactly the correct; shoot, referring to shooting scenes. This is nit-picking at its worst. The message that we hang together or hang separately is lost on those who argue that because they don't like what they see on outdoor television, then the whole scheme is bad. You play into the hands of the anti's. If you don't like outdoor television, then don't watch it, but don't vilify legal and ethical methods because you don't like them. Just put a lid on it and stop aiding and abetting the peta types.

Well, MANY THANKS to all of you for replying quickly and honestly to my post. The vote is unanimous! I guess my gut feeling was true to the mark. Based on the 10 second sampling of a few of the programs it's not too surprising.
Also, special thanks to Joe for his thoughtful opinions related to both the network and the real hunting world it impacts.

Nauseating. I got to the point where I'd enjoy seeing a baited buck lop an arrow into one of the arboreal assassins. I'd rather watch Tony Bordain slurping raw sea urchins. By the way, he does have a lovely show. Chops

There was a similar post on this topic a few weeks ago, and it prompted me to watch some of these shows as my service comes with both of the outdoor channels. I usually scan these channels to see if they have some fly fishing or upland hunting on during the day, but its usually as described, watching some hero duke it out in a tree stand or calling in some turkeys over decoys. Did anyone else see Ms. Cook take a shot at a buck with an arrow (from a tree stand) at what I estimated to be close to a 100 yards? She hit it in the gut and then left it to die overnight. When she came back to find it the morning she did give some lip service to how she hated to do that, but then why did she take the shot? Hunting ethics and sportsmanship are not part of the economic formula to producing these shows.

This makes some good sense to me. I believe we're lucky that these shows are even available to switch off. The commercial part of the channels just mean they are worth doing and have some prospects for the future.

I don't know what's worse, the corn fed deer, hogs, and turkeys, the mass slaughter of hundreds of stupid geese with Benelli's packed with Roman candles, the gleeful dance around the dead critter with the smack of high fives and then bringing it down low and slow and the feigned reverence for the beauty of the beast....erk.....
