Wingshooting USA on Versus is one of the last upland bird / hunting dog shows. Locally, its on Friday mornings.

I very much miss the days when weekends meant relaxing with Hunting With Hank, Shotgun Journal, Ron Schara & Raven, Bird Dogs Forever, Beretta's Bird Hunters Journal and other bird hunting shows. Not much of that type of programming left, sadly.

Come to think about it, Bruce and Marty were bad enuf what with the Beavis & Butthead yuk juk every time they folded a bird. Marty appearing to know a bit about habitat, habits and bird lore generally made that just barely tolerable. I had lunch with Bruce Scott at Vintagers PPt. a few years back. He wasn't exactly the aw shucks galoot you saw on the show; bit cagier than that. Mrs. Scott and their son were the production company and crew for the videos if not the show. I liked her.

OK, got it. We are better than them, right? Thing is, after reading this whole thread, I'm just not sure exactly why.

Jack,
I have to agree, Bruce Scott isn't cagier, I would say he is more 'politically correct' smile sweetly, say a little, but agree.
That doesn't do for me, I would rather tell it how it is.
Never had a lot of time for HomelessjOe until now, I agree one million percent with him that we should go back to HUNTING, not decoying.
We have the same thing here in the UK with our pigeon shooting.
I have always shot pigeon 'walked up' using fieldcraft and any shot pigeon as decoys, slowly building up and adding to the pattern, I walk out of the house with a gun and cartridges.
Now through the use of the media and magazines the average pigeonshooter needs an atv or a quad to transport his 'gear' which includes 'whirlies' 'flappers' 'peckers' 'flycoys' 'angels' and a host of motorcycle batteries to power them.
Sadly most 'film'makers, moviemakers, videographers, cameramen, journalists, call them what you will ( Idiots?) in my experience are chinless freeloaders.
They may well start out with good intentions but they seem to get lost on the way.
