Hello...
I was on another forum and was forwarded to this outstanding site... Someone mentioned that Walt would know much about my Ithaca. I was looking for info, and possible value of the item.

Here is some info and pics.
Here is a Ithaca 10GA 'B' model...I think it's a Baker model, but wanted the forums ideas.

Numbers matching: seriel # 25 thousand and change.
Patents May 1880 through Sept. 13, 1887. Letter B (grade), and 10 next to this info.
The number 252 at bottom of trigger guard
'Itahca Gun Co' on sides.
Ejecter option, and nicely engraved...wood is in very nice condition. No pitting that I notice on barrels, etc. ...
I believe Horseshoe Damascus Barrel...

Thanks for any info!!

Thats nice mate.
I dont care for Ithaca guns much,I don't like those shallow fences the hammerless guns often have.
Not sure I've ever seen a hammer Ithaca before ( don't often look)but I like this one...it has nice voluptuous fences.
Is it rare $ worth a bit lads???

Your gun is the later Ithaca hammer gun known as the New Ithaca Gun (NIG). The NIG replaced the Baker Model in 1887, between serial numbers 6549 and 6550. The NIG was built concurrantly with the Crass, Lewis, Minnier and early Flues Model hammerless doubles up to 1914. Your gun with a serial number in the 25xxx range would be from the late 1893 to early 1895 range. Give Walt the complete serial number and possibly he can find some information on it. The NIG was offered in ascending qualities X, A, AA, B, C, D and E. The X, A, and AA were essentially all the same gun with just the Ithaca logo roll-stamped on the side of the receiver, the difference being the barrel materials -- X had Smokeless Powder Steel barrels, A had Twist barrels and AA had Damascus barrels. Qualities B through E had increasing finer Damascus barrels, increasingly finer wood and checkering, and increasing amounts of hand engraving. Ithaca hammer guns above Quality B are extremely scarce.

Thanks for the replies...

I thought the NIG guns had New Ithaca Gun Co. on the sides...This one does not?

Thanks,
Jason

NIG not NID
The NID came later

see here

Please see page one of the above to give credit to Walt for his work.
Page 2 explains NIG/NID better

The early, lower grade, NIGs, did have the "New Ithaca Gun" roll-stamp on the sides of the frame, but not the higher grade engraved guns. My 1910 NIG has the same Setter on point with the name "Ithaca Gun Co., Ithaca, NY" below thatmy 1915 Flues has.

It should look something like this.

Some one put a screw through the last 2 numbers. Sure does not add value.

I think you're correct...I can see a small piece of the next seriel #...that explains why the wood is in such great shape. Does this take any value away from the gun?
