Nah jOe, Ol' Jack used his .270 and Elmer used his .500 Boswell. That's why Jack didn't like Elmer. grin

Read even deeper from your small circle....... laugh.......ROFLMAO.....

Quote; Jack O'Conner....(1937).....

"The popularity of the 7 X 57 has been dropping off... The reason for this is that that there isn't anything that the 7-mm will do that the .270 will not do better."

"I finally sold my 7-mm rifle and got rid of all my loading dies and components, not beause I did not have a lot of repect for the cartridge, BUT because 7-mm rifles have a long throat owing to the original long loading of the 175 grain bullet. When short sporter spitzer bullets are used, like the 139 grain spitzer, throat errosion is bad and accuracy life is short because there is bad gas cutting in the leade from gas that gets by the bullet while it is jumping that throat."....

Jack wasn't bad to read but I always prefered reading Elmer. Elmer never went undergunned. smile

I enjoyed a lot of what I read that O'Connor wrote as well as Elmer. But I do think they came from an era of writers that tended to 'think big' in their story telling.

Elmer was stuck in the horse days and it reflected in some of his last "Gun Notes" columns. I miss those two old devils and their writing styles. smile
