Hi all, just curious to what you all think about the Greener Side Safety when hunting? Is it an awkward arrangment?

Thanks for any and all input.

All the best!

Greg

Very hard to get used to when you shoot other guns with a top slide safety.
I found using this gun for walk up bird shooting, is that when the dog is on point, I walk up and slide the safety off and walk until the bird/s fly and then shoot. After, open gun, reload, make sure safe is on and continue.
I would imagine that when these guns were made with the side safety that it was for driven birds, when you started to mount gun, safety went off, and so on.

I agree Dave. I don't use my Greener all that much, so I have to carry it with my thumb on the safety at all times.

The Greener safety works fine for me when I'm shooting doves or ducks or when I'm turkey hunting; I may even like it better than the top safety. I don't like it for any shooting where I have to walk into a covey rise or get off a snap shot in case of a surprise flush...Geo

p.s.: the Darne safety and the Manufrance safetys are even worse!

Sold mine years ago--just couldn't get used to it on wild flushes. Also, I much prefer a safety that automatically returns to safe when opened.

Greener side safties could be either auto or non auto.

I agree with those who find it awkward when one is used to the top safety - I need to think about it constantly to avoid surprises when a duck suddenly appears. Probably much better if you use only Greeners.

How does the Greener safety work for a lefty? I've never shot one but one of my lefty friends likes his and says it's not a big problem.

Bob, I would agree, when shouldering it, a lefties index finger would be in the right spot.

Not all Greener's are side safety. I shoot a sidelock Greener so the safety is on top.
