I've seen exactly one - a German drilling - that had the side safety set up on the gun's right side, i.e., in position for a lefty's thumb. Only one.

As a lefty, I much prefer a tang safety on just about anything. If I were to pick up a pump gun, it would be a Mossberg 500 precisely because it, unlike an 870 or Ithaca 37, has a tang safety.
