If one patterned a 3" 20 gauge turkey load on a pattern board and compared it with a 2.75" load or a 3.5" 12 gauge turkey load versus 2.75" or 3" turkey load, shot size equal, one would understand why some hunters prefer the "joke" shells. With most turkey shots, shot density on a standing target is more critical than a short shot string or "square" load. YMMV.

The 3 & 1/2" twelve has it's place and I've yet to see a 3" shell out pattern it.

And if one bothered to really test 2 1/2" loads against 3" loads on the dove field one would also understand one reason for something heavier than 1/2 oz. shot. SRH

I've never saw anyone shoot dove with a 3" shell.
GLS don't kid yourself....the 20 ga. in any form or fashion can not out perform a heavy 2 & 3/4" 12 ga. shell.

Chops: You have set yourself up for the fall with this question. I think it's a good question and has some merit. CLEARLY, some of these boomers shoot SH*T patterns. Others are better. Come on guys, be kind on this issue with Chops. He was just iterating his sentiment and may not be that far off. Buzz

Here's my 20 gauge 1.625 ozs. of #9 tungsten super shot at 40 yards at just under 1200 fps. .570 choke. That's a 10" circle with 279 shot holes. There are 342 tungsten 9s in 1 oz. For comparison, there are 585 lead 9s in an oz. The tungsten is almost twice as dense as lead. This load is hell on turkeys.
