Looks like a nice gun....If you can live with a 2 & 1/2" shell and get it for about 4 grande.

At the 6 grande asking price should you decide later that you don't like it or figure out you can't shoot it you are going to take a beating if you sell it...or you are going to have to live with it for a very long time.

Looks like BV3 for Tranter. Looks to be a well engraved "B" grade (OQ3) - good wwod might bump it to suggest OQ2.5. Gray reciever, wood extension, and (appears to me) reblacked barrels suggest heavy use but no abuse" (CC4). BV3-OQ2.5,CC4 = $4900. I'd think $1000 either way on personal inspection.

Rocketman. I get the general idea for your formula, but where did this come from, what are the particulars and does this pertain to all guns or just English? Thx.

This looks like an excellent opportunity to buy real gun value at a discount. Beautifully carved fences, stocked to the fences and no through lump mark this gun as well above the average Birmingham stock in trade.
Given that the gun is in proof on face and has goodwall thicknesses you might ask for a bit off to cover a trip to The Stock Doctor to help that extension

I'm a little confused here. If, as stated, it is a Birmingham gun how would it have "London fine rose & scroll engraving"? It just doesn't look like a 6K gun to me.

Buzz, the process and look-up tables came from market research I have conducted and continue to conduct. The idea was to make myself a "crutch" to get a jumpstart past my lack of experience (and lack of opportunity for experience) with Brit and Continental guns. When I got through all the initial collection of data I found that brand value (BV), original quality grade (OQ), and current condition level (CC) would yield a sufficintly accurate estimate of value. Keep in mind that "value" is what one would predict the market would pay as opposed to "price," what a given seller asks for a given gun. I have found the tables to be useful, as have many others.

Questions?
